RP-C18.3-LT Flexible Thin-Film Force Sensitive Resistor (20g - 6kg)
Measure localized mechanical pressure accurately with the RP-C18.3-LT Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR). This ultra-thin, flexible film sensor features an 18.3mm circular sensing area and a long-tail design that translates applied forces ranging from 20g up to 6kg directly into variable electrical resistance. It is an ideal tactile sensor for smart wearables, human-machine interfaces, robotics gripping controls, and medical patient bed monitoring.

Detailed Description
The RP-C18.3-LT Flexible Thin-Film Force Sensitive Resistor is an industrial-grade tactility sensor engineered to bridge the physical gap between physical force impact and microelectronic data streaming. Boasting a highly adaptable, ultra-low profile framework measuring just 0.4 mm thick, this specialized Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR) is composed of highly conductive materials, structural substrate substrates, and a nanometer pressure-sensitive composite layer. The top and bottom layers are securely fused using a rugged industrial double-sided adhesive matrix.
When the active circular zone remains unactuated, the internal circuit traces are physically disconnected, registering an initial open-circuit base state resistance greater than 10 MΩ. The moment an outside force is applied to the active area, the internal conductive layer compresses against the disconnected lower layer, bridging the circuit. The electrical resistance drops inversely to the applied weight force, allowing a simple microcontroller voltage divider circuit to translate the analog voltage shift into readable force data. The "LT" (Long-Leg) package extension allows designers to mount the sensor deep within localized enclosures while keeping routing wires away from the main impact zone.
Key Features and Benefits
-
Ultrafast Sub-10ms Feedback: Boasts an activation delay time under 0.01 seconds and an active response speed under 10 milliseconds for lag-free real-time calculations.
-
Wide, Ultra-Sensitive Dynamic Range: Triggers at a low 20g activation threshold and smoothly scales measurements up to 6 kg.
-
Long Operating Lifespan: Rated for over 1 million heavy actuation cycles without showing mechanical drift or degradation.
-
Static & Dynamic Analysis: Handles both continuous, unchanging pressure arrays and rapid impact pressure waves up to a frequency of 10 Hz.
-
No Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): The fully passive structural design generates zero system EMI or ESD hazards, keeping adjacent telemetry equipment clean.

How to Use
-
Build a Voltage Divider Circuit: FSR sensors do not output a direct voltage or current signal on their own. Connect one leg of the RP-C18.3-LT to your positive power rail (+5V or +3.3V).
-
Install the Pull-Down Resistor: Connect the second sensor leg to a fixed resistor (a 4.7 KOhm to 10KOhm value works best) pointing to Ground (GND).
-
Route the Microcontroller Input: Tap an analog input channel (such as pin A0 on an Arduino Uno or ESP32) from the midpoint junction where the sensor leg meets the pull-down resistor.
-
Write the Analog Read Routine: Use standard
analogRead(A0)code lines to sample the incoming voltage. As you press down harder on the 18.3 mm circle, the measured analog value will rise. -
Calibrate the Force Data: Map the raw ADC steps using your project's code logic against known weights to calibrate the output into real grams or kilograms.
Applications
-
Medical Monitoring & Smart Beds: Embedded directly inside mattress pads or seating to detect patient movement, bed exits, or sitting positions.
-
Robotic Tactile Grippers: Installed on the tips of robotic arms to give machines touch feedback and prevent them from crushing fragile objects.
-
Smart Athletic Wearables: Placed inside shoes or insoles to track foot impact patterns, running frequency, and balance.
-
Industrial Safety Interlocks: Used as a low-profile touch trigger or hidden emergency switch underneath panel enclosures.
