Standard trace antennas or small PCB patch antennas built into developer breakout boards often struggle with packet drops or poor signal strength when housed inside plastic project enclosures or metallic boxes. This 50mm rubber-duck antenna solves coverage issues by bringing high-efficiency RF reception outside the enclosure.

Supporting broad multi-band frequencies across 824 MHz to 2170 MHz, this antenna works seamlessly across GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and 3G UMTS networks. The antenna features a durable rubberized outer sheath protecting a flexible internal radiator element, paired with a solid brass SMA Male connector (with internal threads and a center pin). It easily threads onto SMA Female panel mounts or IPEX-to-SMA pigtails connected to cellular modems.

How to Connect & Interface

1. Direct Board Connection: If your GSM breakout board (such as a SIM900 shield or SIM7600 module) includes an onboard edge-mounted SMA Female port, thread the 5cm antenna directly onto the connector until hand-tight.

2. u.FL / IPEX Adapter Connection: Modules like the SIM800L or mini cellular breakout boards often use microscopic u.FL (IPEX) connector pads. To use this external antenna:

   • Snap an IPEX to SMA Female pigtail cable onto the module's u.FL connector.

   • Screw the 5cm GSM antenna into the SMA Female end of the pigtail adapter.

3. Mounting Tip: Position the antenna vertically where possible and away from large ground planes or power supplies to minimize RF interference.
